Pairing your Laser Treatments with Injectables

Pairing your Laser Treatments with Injectables

Oftentimes the best results are achieved when multiple medical aesthetic treatments are used together. In particular, laser treatments and injectables pair well as lasers can resurface the skin while injectables add volume. Additionally, a combination of the treatments can also help to minimize scarring and increase collagen production.

However, there are some considerations for how these treatments can be combined and potential waiting periods between procedures. Here we will look at ways to pair laser treatments with injectables in order to maximize their effectiveness and efficiency.

Ways to Pair Laser Treatments and Injectables

There are multiple ways for laser treatments and injectables to be combined based on a patient’s goals. Here are a few of the best examples of ways to combine these treatments to maximize results.

Laser Resurfacing and PRP Injectables: Platelet-rich plasma injections are a unique injectable that uses a patient’s own blood to rejuvenate their skin. Laser treatments create small pockets in the skin that will help PRP to penetrate even more deeply than it would without laser treatment. Topical products like skin moisturizers and hyaluronic acid serums will also be more effective after a laser treatment due to the small channels created in the skin. A proper skin regimen after treatment can improve and extend results.

Botox and Laser Scar Treatment: One of the best uses of pairing injectables with lasers is to administer botox after laser treatment to reduce the look of scars. For maximum effectiveness, laser treatment should be administered to a scar from an injury or surgery within three weeks. Then, botox should be injected around the wound to further promote healing and aid in reducing scar formation.

PRP, Skin-Tightening, and Resurfacing for Anti Aging: Gaining a more youthful appearance is one of the most common requests from patients. While any of these three treatments can help with the signs of aging, they work even better when combined.

Laser resurfacing and skin-tightening work to address issues at the surface while a PRP injection targets areas below the skin in order to promote collagen production. The end result is more natural fullness and vibrancy for a healthy glow.

Can You Get Laser Treatments and Injectables at the Same Time?

For many years it was thought that administering injectables and laser treatment on the same day would degrade the injectable. However, this has largely been refuted as medical aesthetic providers have begun combining treatments in order to give patients a more expedient way to gain optimal results.

This is possible because most laser treatments do not penetrate the skin deeply enough to disturb underlying fillers. Therefore, it may be possible to get laser treatments and injectables at the same time. However, though it may be possible it is not always the best way.

Typically, a one to two week waiting period is ideal between the two treatments with the laser treatment being scheduled before the injectable. This is because some laser treatments may affect the way the skin looks and moves. If the injectable were to be done before this, the placement may no longer be correct.

Can You Get Fillers After Laser Treatment?

Yes, fillers can be administered after laser treatment. However, in this scenario, a waiting period is typically necessary. While a laser treatment followed by an injectable may be possible at the same time, an injectable followed by laser treatment benefits from a waiting period. This allows the skin to heal and the injectable to settle before the laser is administered.

Other Considerations of Pairing Injectables with Laser Treatments

Side Effects: With most non-invasive and minimally invasive treatments, side effects are quite mild. However, should a laser treatment and injectable be administered in the same area at the same time, redness and swelling may be more intense compared to only having a single treatment. This effect should resolve itself within a few days but patients should be made aware of this healing period before scheduling both procedures on the same day.

Time and Cost: Should a patient receive two or more treatments on the same day, there will be an overall time savings compared to multiple visits. However, this single appointment will likely need to be longer compared to doing only one procedure. Scheduling appointments with enough time is key.

That being said, you should aim to work quickly and efficiently when administering two treatments at the same time. This is because the numbing cream will begin to wear off. If you are new to combining treatments, it is good to keep this in mind and ensure you are comfortable with working quickly while remaining accurate.

Similarly, the combined cost of the treatments may be prohibitively expensive for a patient to pay all at once. Give the client other options for spacing out their treatments and payments if necessary.

Risk of Infection: Increased risk of infection is really only an issue if the wrong treatments are combined on the same day. For example, dermal fillers that are injected deep under the skin should not be done on the same day as skin resurfacing or microneedling. These combined procedures will leave the skin too open and prone to infection and inflammation.

Aftercare: A regimen of moisturization and skin care is always important after any treatment but is especially critical after multiple treatments. This includes minimizing sun exposure and applying sunblock.
