Latest Medical Aesthetic Technology

Medical aesthetic technology and trends continue to grow in order to meet the demand for safe, effective, and natural-looking enhancements. With many people now living a hybrid life that is part virtual and part in-person, patients are looking for aesthetic treatments that look good both on camera and in real life.

New and existing procedures are being used to address these needs including the next generation of the platelet rich plasma (PRP) facial and advanced laser technology like SharpLight’s proprietary Dynamic Pulse Control™. Here we will look at some of the latest medical aesthetic technology and trends that are helping patients live their best lives.

Impact of COVID-19 on Medical Aesthetic Trends and Technology

Like with so many other aspects of our lives, COVID-19 has had an impact on medical aesthetic trends and technology. With more workers conducting their jobs remotely and having frequent virtual meetings, many people are seeking medical aesthetic procedures to enhance their face and profile.

Often spending hours of every work day on camera has made facial procedures seem increasingly important and even necessary to maintaining confidence. At the same time, people returning to in-person meetings and social gatherings are also looking to rejuvenate their appearance after a long hibernation.

In both instances, noninvasive medical aesthetic technology is meeting the need for procedures that revitalize a person’s appearance without surgery. This allows patients to turn back the clock on their skin to the pre-pandemic era as a way to reclaim this lost time.

Here are some of the medical aesthetic technologies and procedures that are gaining traction with clients:

Laser Treatment for Acne

Laser treatment for acne has gained popularity as an alternative to potentially harmful prescription acne medications and ineffective over the counter acne medications. With 80% of the population experiencing this skin condition at some point in their lives, clients are looking for safe, effective and quicker ways to heal their skin. SharpLight’s DPC Technology provides an advanced laser solution to treating mild to moderate acne with proven results.

Skin Rejuvenation

Patients are also seeking a way to improve their overall facial appearance for a fresh, healthy look.  This can be achieved through a variety of methods but fractional resurfacing and platelet rich fibrin are among the most popular and effective.

Fractional Resurfacing

Fractional resurfacing is a non-invasive treatment that precisely removes the top most layers of the skin to reveal healthier skin underneath. Additionally, it also promotes collagen production for longer lasting results.

Technology like SharpLight’s RapidPeel make fractional resurfacing an easy and safe way for clients to achieve a fresh-faced appearance.  With only a few short sessions, the RapidPeel can rejuvenate the skin and also help to minimize irregularities.

Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF)

Also in the category of skin rejuvenation is PRF which is emerging as the preferred version of platelet rich plasma (PRP) treatment. which has been used by many high-profile celebrities to keep their skin camera-ready. With both procedures, a patient’s own blood is extracted then put into a centrifuge to separate the plasma. This plasma can then be injected or applied to the skin to promote collagen production and cell growth.

Where PRF differs is that no thinning agent (anticoagulant) is used when the blood is drawn. This allows for a greater white blood cell concentration in the resulting plasma. With more white blood cells there is up to 10 times more cell growth stimulation for even better and more noticeable results.

Both procedures are painless, natural, regarded as highly safe, and, most importantly, effective.

PRP remains a quality solution for a variety of aesthetic concerns, but PRF is fast becoming the preferred technology. Some of the uses of these procedures include:

  • Aid in wound healing
  • Promote hair growth
  • Increase sexual wellness through injections into the penis, clitoris, vagina, or labia
  • Promote skin and bone regeneration including in dental procedures
  • Skin rejuvenation around the eyes, hands, chest, and neck

Stacking Procedures

While not a new concept, combining medical aesthetic procedures is becoming increasingly common. By having multiple procedures at one time a patient can maximize results and minimize the time they need to spend in the office.

Stacking procedures can even create a more natural, balanced look. For example, injecting fillers in several key areas of the face at the same time can produce an overall revitalized look compared to a single feature standing out as changed.

Injectables are also often combined with laser treatments. Combining laser resurfacing of the skin with a PRF treatment will help the plasma penetrate more deeply since the laser creates small openings in the skin. Similarly, skin-tightening and fat reduction laser treatments are often combined to treat these issues that typically go hand in hand.

How to Make Stacking Procedures More Efficient

One of the best ways to offer patients efficient stacking procedures is to use devices that are able to perform more than one treatment. SharpLight puts a focus on creating technology that can work for a wide range of patients with multiple treatment options in one convenient device. Both the Omnimax S3 and S4 are compact devices that offer you and your clients the flexibility needed to achieve the best stacked procedure results.

Brow Lift

Brow lifts can improve the appearance of the whole face and help patients look and feel younger. In the past, this type of lift would have involved invasive surgery. Fortunately, advancements in laser technology and minimally invasive procedures are now providing safer yet still effective alternatives.

Laser Brow Lift

A laser brow lift is a non-invasive procedure that can improve brow appearance with little discomfort or recovery time. This procedure  aims to smooth the brow of wrinkles while also helping to lift sagging eyelids. Typically, this is done for patients who want to regain a more youthful appearance but it can also be used on younger patients who simply want to adjust the shape of the brow.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

An endoscopic brow lift is a minimally invasive procedure that involves very small incisions being made at the hairline. The incisions do not require much in the way of healing time and are effectively concealed by the hair.  Through these thin incisions advanced tools are inserted to manipulate the brow in order to release wrinkle tension and lift the skin.

Endoscopic brow lifts are not as invasive as a surgical face lift but can produce more dramatic results than just botox.

Dermal Fillers for Chin

Dermal fillers are not new technology but they are increasingly being used in the chin and jaw area. Dermal fillers for the chin aid in creating volume and a stronger, more defined profile.

These fillers are often used to balance other areas of the face to create subtle but effective enhancements without more invasive procedures. For example, instead of surgery to decrease the size of one’s nose, a dermal filler in the chin can make the face and profile look more proportional.

Fillers are also long lasting but easy to dissolve if needed. This makes them an excellent choice for anyone who wants to enhance their profile without committing to more permanent procedures.

Laser Alternative to Dermal Fillers

For some patients, injections may not be an option or they simply may not like the idea of having any kind of substance being placed under their skin. In these cases, laser treatments can offer similar results.

To help the appearance of the chin, laser treatments can be used to sculpt and reduce the fat of the jawline and neck. When these areas are slimmed, the chin will naturally look more prominent.

Fat Grafting

Fat grafting is a kind of injection that uses a patient’s own fat to restore volume in another site, most often the face. With fat grafting, a small amount of fat is usually taken from the thighs or abdomen, cleaned of any broken fat cells, and then injected into the desired area. This procedure is often combined with subcutaneous laser therapy to increase the effectiveness of the grafting.

This is similar to other fillers in terms of the injection procedure but has several advantages including the potential for longer lasting results and greater volume restoration. In particular, fat grafting is useful for restoring volume around the jaw, cheeks, and eyes.

Since it uses a person’s own fat it is seen as more natural and eliminates the potential for adverse reactions due to the chemicals used in manufactured fillers.

However, fat grafting does have limitations. It is better at restoring volume but not as useful for reducing the appearance of wrinkles compared to dermal fillers. Therefore, both fillers and grafting continue to be popular procedures.
