Chemical vs. Physical Sunblock

Chemical vs. Physical Sunblock

With summer around the corner, and the sun’s UVA, UVB and UVC rays growing stronger, this shouldn’t deter you from enjoying the outdoors.

Sunblock is a way to protect your skin from the damaging effects of the sun including:

  • immediate reactions like sunburns
  • damage that will appear over your life time, like sun spots and hyperpigmentation

Chemical sunblock although does protect you from the sun’s harsh rays, also may contain as many as 5 carcinogenic chemicals being even worse than the sun itself!!

Physical Sunblock such as Zinc Oxide is often used as a natural, non-toxic sunblock to prevent burns, signs of photo-aging and irritation. Look for ingredients such as zinc oxide, and titanium dioxide in natural sunscreen bottles. It is also found in most baby creams such as penaten cream. Although it can come across quite white, once rubbed effectively into the skin it acts as a complete barrier; like wearing a piece of clothing.  Similarly, it will then protect and prevent anything irritating to persevere; Hence that fancy diaper rash!
